The stay at Makana was sweet for me. the bed, the quietness, the love your ALOOOOHHHHAAAAA spirit was perfect. I am Hawaiian and I loved visiting with you. ONly 5 days wasn't enough I'll have to come back soon. Please give the three kids a hug from Aunty Lani. I will be recommending this place to my friends. George and I still can't stop talking about how nice our stay was in Hawaii! A big part of our enjoyment came from David and Sophie, they really had the place layed out to feel very private and comfortable, but more so, they had the perfect balance of interaction with us. Sophie and David went above and beyond the call of duty, saving our shoes from getting drenched, helping me with my personal laundry, plying us with homemade bannana bread (bannanas fresh the tree), and inviting us for a dinner that featured a lasagna that was to die for(no pressure Sophie). At the same time we never felt a lack of privacy.

As for the boxers, they were there if we wanted to interact with them, but if we were feeling shy, David and Sophie did a fine job of sequestering the pups (good to know if your not a dog person), and they never woke us with barking if that might be a concern.

If your thinking of staying here, think no more! We highly recommend it!

We really needed a vacation and a place to stay to relax, hang out and avoid the crowds and just unwind. We were lucky to end up at MakanaMaiKaLani! It was the perfect location to get around the island from and stay away from the hordes of tourist zombies elsewhere. Opening the gate and driving in felt like we just got home. We very much enjoyed hanging out with you and the boxers as well. You are great hosts and and have a knack for making people feel welcome. Thanks for sharing your friends as well-they seem like people we would like to hang out with too! Cheers and a heartfelt thanks!

We enjoyed a long stay in August, 2011. The location is spectacular and peaceful. The suite was clean and comfortable. Well worth the price.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful. This rental provides the quintessential Hamakua Coast experience. It is our favorite vacation rental in all of Hawaii. We plan to return soon.

Breath taking scenery both day and night.

The day begins with a spectacular sun rise over the pacific ocean while sitting on a bench swing outside of the room 1100 ft above sea level. The view is lush greenery, flowers and cattle grazing in meadow. You also see sailboats and sea vessels glide over the water throughout the day. The property sits on a hill side which is very tranquil and relaxing. Morning walks are exhilarating and tranquil. After a rain shower if your lucky you can see colorful rainbows which seem to move closer and closer to you.

The private rooms are very spacious, airy and have a very comfortable homey feeling. The bathroom is private and also very roomy with a large walk-in shower.

We totally enjoyed our stay and hope we will be able to visit again soon.

We had the pleasure of staying at this location a couple of times recently. This truely is paradise! The property is located away from the usual touristy spots. However, if it is tourist attractions you want to see, there are plenty nearby for viewing. The location has tremendous views of the Pacific Ocean. The property is clean and well maintained. The owners pocess a wealth of knowledge of the Big Island and all the plces to visit and eat. The beauty of this location is you have choices! If you prefer the quiet and just want to relax and get away from the stresses of work and tourist commitments, it is here. With a beautiful pool right outside your door, relaxing is easy. If you want to visit the many tourist locations available on the Big Island, you also have that option. The owners have seen all the attractions on the Big Island. So overall, this location gives you the best of both worlds. You can choose how busy you want to be on your vacation.

The most peaceful, relaxing vacation we've had in a long time. The view was mesmerizing. We actually saw a rainbow touch the ground next to the pool. You could reach out and touch it!! The hosts welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like family from the first moment. Being dog lovers, we enjoyed the boxers. The accommodations were comfortable and cozy. We felt like we belonged there--not just visiting. We can't wait to go back agian!!

Gifts From Heaven is the appropriate name for this vacation
rental. The sunrises are amazing and sitting around the pool was so
tranquil with an awesome view of the ocean. The hosts are so charming,
friendly and helpful that it made our stay even more enjoyable. I
especially appreciated the large walk-in shower after a recent knee
surgery. We'll be back.
